... and Quilt WIP, eighth part
It's Golden Week here in Japan, and today, Sunday Edit: tomorrow, Monday (I thought it was the fifth already) it's kodomo no hi (Children's Day), a holiday on which Tango no Sekku, the Boy's Festival is celebrated.
Samurai dolls like this (photo taken earlier this week while we were in the Yokohama area) are displayed in the houses and carp streamers hung from balconies or mounted on huge poles in the gardens to pray for the families' sons' health and success in life.
If you happen to live somewhere in our area, there's the Giant Kite Festival at the Sagami River, lots of carp streamers, said giant kites and festival food... worth a visit.
Three favourites from Monday's walk:
And the update... all but six circles are attached, joyously. I liked the appliqueing by hand and also it's so nice to see the whole thing is actually coming together. Next step after finishing the circles will be stamping a label. Or embroidering one. Not sure yet.
Enjoy your weekend!
Children's day, Boy's festival...It must be nice for a child to live in a country with so many celebrations in their honour..The quilt seems to be coming along nicely..hand quilting is a work of love surely.

I'm always so inpsired by the lovely photos of your craft projects.
Could you please send me your postal address? I have way too much Liberty fabric here - especially after a huge bag of offcuts was returned after my winter range was produced. I'd love to see some of my scraps get used by such a talented quilter so I'd love to send you a parcel. In return I only hope to see more wonderful photos. You make me want to get quilting.

I couldn't picture how the aplique circles were going to work before, but seeing them now they are a great little touch. Very pretty.
I love the second picture too; the shiny floors and woodwork are so, well, Japanese. Lovely.

Your blog is such a treat!
I make quilts too, and I have a Samari doll (riding a white horse) from the 1950's.

I wanted to thank you for posting your tutowlrial. I spotted it a while back and saved it in my favorites but never got around to making them, until now! They were so easy to whip up and I can't wait to make some more! I don't have a flicker account, but I do have a picture of them posted on my blog if you want to go and see. I'd be honored if you stopped by.
Thanks for sharing!!
