toast and progress

Some time ago I spoke about hitting the reset button here on MOONSTITCHES. Going back to posting about all those unspectacular things that happen or are around me everyday, sharing my progress on knitting and sewing projects.
I can't say that I actually ever got around realizing my intention, but here we go...
Working on my Harvest Moon so far has been highly enjoyable. In the beginning I did not fully understand what I was doing while following the instructions for the edging, but I trusted the pattern and was surprised how nicely the icord (or fake i-cord since it's being knitted flat?) developed.

After the collar was done I was introduced to short row shaping. Again, I trusted the instructions and just went with whatever I was told... and again I was pleasantly surprised how easy everything came together.
Also the work on the front edging started. I am terrible at memorizing. The edging isn't complicated but four different directions and all those abbreviations for right sides and wrong sides and left and right? I was getting confused and had to come up with something to make it more convenient for me:

Simple numbers on markers and a card.

I am letting those markers travel with my progress, so they are always just below my needle. When I reach an edge I look at the number, check my card and quickly know what to do. No thinking required. Sometimes this is just what I need ;)
I have now divided the stitches for the sleeves and the body, 17 cm until the work on those slightly scaring pockets will begin!

The first picture is a pair of Toast I made for my sister recently. I increased two stitches three times for the thumbs. The yarn is Felted Tweed which i had at home. I never considered making wristwarmers for myself but after trying on those for my sister I totally need a pair of my own.

Today was a lovely day. Sunny and dry, with the perfect, clear evening sky to look out for the hare in the moon and grab some of those dango (rice balls) he has been preparing for us.

Happy to see you are still there.
It was our first real back to school season and I must say, getting back into daily routines has kept us even more busy than those long holidays.
I thought I would come back earlier but, well... it always takes me longer than expected.
I did make a couple of things which I will show you over the next days. Sewing and knitting always seem to fit in, no matter how busy I might be.
A few days ago I started knitting Harvest Moon, a new pattern by Heidi Kirrmaier. It's so simple and has such lovely, little details... the pockets! The collar...

The yarn I am using (New Alpaca Wool by Naito Shoji) is very dark blue, a colour I am currently LOVING. I hope my cardigan will turn out alright. So far I am enjoying getting to know all those new (to me) techniques, like short row shaping or i-cord edges. It's like taking a knitting class.
