Thanks, Thanks and Thanks

Silk and Cotton, that's all I will be using for my quilts from now on. I mean really. I thought I would do so already but on a closer look I gasped... cotton wrapped polyester it was! Oh my, can't I read?!
Thanks to Myra  I learned about this alarming post about the damage that can be caused by the very same thread I've been using... Thanks, Jan!

All but three stars are constructed using cotton coated polyester thread... I better don't look back. Hope this quilt will be around some time.

Thanks also for these wonderful goods that came as my whiplash prize lately.   

I guess I will finally using bamboo handles when making a bag. Despite of living in a country where the next bamboo grove is usually just around the corner I never chose bamboo for handles... maybe just too obvious? Well, thanks to Tall Poppy I now have a nice pair of bamboo handles and will try to do my best to make a bag with them that isn't looking too Japanese in the end.
The prize also included a bag pattern by Amy Butler and a bunch of fabrics I had secretly hoped for... the beautifully picked fabric bundle "Carolina" from Purl!
What a great package. Thanks whipup! This whiplash competition was great fun!

Tomorrow (actually today) I have to prepare Dagny's first bento for Kindergarten - I've decided to make something very simple, just rice, salmon and corn. Hope she will eat like it.

A Forest For You

While I was out looking for some Springhill Picnic this week I came across a little forest and thought of this pretty cozy for a french press and that this fabric isn't so easy to get for people outside Japan nowadays.
I bought it. And will give it to you. If you are interested.

Being a crafter and living in Japan is like living in paradise, I know and enjoy. Stumbling over this fabric this week immediately let me think of sharing my luck a bit.
And yes, I got my Picnic, in three colour variations, half price!!!

Es ist heiss und feucht hier in Japan. Man schwitzt 24 Stunden am Tag.
Prima Entschuldigung fuer neues, kuehles Leinen und leichte Gazestoffe. Besonders freue ich mich ueber den schon angejahrten  Leinen von Lotta Jansdotter, den ich letzte Woche bei Swany habe ergattern koennen.
Eine andere, Kuehle vermittelnde Sache ist die Sommerausgabe der "Craft Cafe". Fast das gesamte Heft erscheint in ein frisches Blaugruen getaucht, da kann man waehrend des Durchblatterns glatt fuer ein paar Momente vergessen, dass man am ganzen Koerper klebt.

It's hot and humid here in Japan. Sweatening 24 hours a day. Nice excuse for some new, chilling linen and light gauze. Especially I am happy about got hold of some 'vintage' linen of Lotta Jansdotter at Swany last week.

Another thing that seems to promise refreshment is this summer issue of "Craft Cafe'. Almost every page seems to have been dipped into chilly bluish green and while flipping through one can almost  forget that one's body is feeling sticky from head to foot.

Keine Ueberraschungen in diesem Blog - ich zeige Euch ein weiteres Mal schoene Stoffe.
Weil ich finde, dass es naheliegend ist fuer jemanden der Stoffe LIEBT und das Los gezogen hat, in Japan zu leben.

No surprises on this blog - me showing beautiful fabrics, once again.
Because I think it's an obvious thing to do for someone who LOVES fabrics and happens to be living in Japan.

Edit: These fabrics are not mine. It is just a photo of a pile of Kimono silk in a shop in Asakusa, Tokyo, where I went in May. I do manage to see beautiful fabrics and not buying them. Maybe, because I know tomorrow there are others, just as beautiful... ;-)
